We offer three ways to enhance learning and clinical implementation of RO DBT as you go through the Blended Learning Program.
Expert-Led Team Consult
Learn RO DBT in the company of other therapists studying the Blended Leaning Program, in regular team consult meetings, led by an RO DBT 'expert'.
Providing the opportunity to ask questions about the material, discuss implementation issues in your own practice and role play protocols as you learn the treatment, the aim of the expert-led Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT) consult team is to support RO DBT therapists, both as they learn the treatment and on an ongoing basis, offering teaching and advice on how to work with OC clients suffering from chronic mental health problems.
Effective delivery of RO DBT requires therapists to practice radical openness skills themselves, and participation in a team consult is one of the most effective ways to make this a reality. A well-functioning consultation team, with open minds, provides not only support but also corrective feedback, enhances empathy for the client, promotes therapist adherence to the treatment and helps prevent therapist burn out.
How does it work?
As well as providing the opportunity for discussion and questions, participation on the team also involves practicing openness, giving and receiving corrective feedback, practicing RO mindfulness and self-inquiry, identifying social signaling targets and solidifying knowledge of RO DBT protocols and principles. With the inconspicuous nature of most overcontrolled (OC) related problems, it is rarely sufficient for therapists to simply describe what they believe to be the clinical problem, thus role plays and videotapes of actual individual sessions or skills classes will be part of the team experience. By participating on an expert-led RO Consultation Team, you also learn how to run an effective team independently of the 'expert'.
Participants who sign up for the consult team will be given a participant folder which will include information on what is expected of you before attending and during the consult team meetings. The folder helps prepare for participating on the team and provides a foundation for the team consultation experience.
Commitment is for a minimum of six Team Consult Meetings led by an accredited Senior RO Consult Leader. Groups typically have a maximum of 10 members and meet once a month during a live online meeting for a maximum of 2 hours per meeting.
We can help you join a team, or you may already have an established team that is working together to learn and implement RO DBT. Places are limited - and we can't always guarantee immediate availability.
Entry requirements:
- You must be seeing patients
- You must have read the RO DBT books (Textbook and Skills manual)
- As a minimum requirement, you must be enrolled in level 1 and be approaching completion of the 6 lessons, with an intention to complete Levels 2 and 3.

Booking Instructions: Please email us to enquire about the availability to join one of our teams or to set up team consult for your existing team: support@radicallyopen.net
Meet the Expert to discuss training content
The aim of this 1-hour meeting is for clinicians to ask questions about the teaching material and not to discuss patient-related or case-specific issues - these matters can be addressed in a supervision or consultation session - see below. It is possible to attend the meeting as a group if you all have the same topic you'd like to discuss, or if you are working in a team and would like the collective benefit of getting a better understanding of the materials. The RO expert leading the meeting might practice protocols with you using role-plays.
Examples of possible topics:
- Chain & Solution Analysis
- Alliance Ruptures & Repairs
- Program issues
- Assessment
- Recruitment

Supervision and/or consultation
Supervisors are able to provide online supervision. Typically, they review a tape of a treatment session with you and provide feedback and answer questions. Supervision can be accessed worldwide; supervisors use online meeting systems, have flexible hours and are not limited by time zones.
If you are unable to provide tape of a session or skills class, you can meet for consultation to discuss patient related problems or case specific issues.
If you would like to organize supervision or consultation, please contact a supervisor directly; their areas of expertise and contact details are listed in their individual profiles.
